As part of the World Green Building Week 2021 (20-24 Sept), the World Green Building Council has released a guidebook on how Sustainable Buildings are #BuildingResilience to climate change and for people and economies. By 2050, the world’s building stock will double, increasing the impact of our sector significantly. Its demand on natural resources accelerates climate change, and inefficient, unhealthy buildings are affecting our livelihoods. This guidebook comes out quite timely, as the #COP26 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC), hosted by the UK in partnership with Italy, will take place from 31 October to 12 November 2021 in Glasgow. It states "As the UNFCCC works to bring resilience to the forefront of the climate agenda, we as a green building network have an opportunity".

Set up in 2015, the United Nation (UN)'s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is the most holistic, comprehensive and actionable framework for global sustainability and climate change abatement. The WGBC guidebook has done a great job at mapping how sustainable buildings support and will help achieve the UN SDGs. Below is a summary form the guide with additional commentary on how BtrLyf as a digital tool supports sustainable buildings in meeting the SDGs.

Sustainable buildings and cities promote human health by encouraging healthy lifestyles, protecting people from harm across the building and construction lifecycle.

BtrLyf as a digital tool was launched in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic to reduce the physical touch-points and carry on with business as usual for doing energy assessment and green certification.

Sustainable buildings can help protect the scarce water resources, driving water efficiency and reducing waste, and enhance water quality and sanitation.

BtrLyf is currently focused on digitalization of energy and carbon assessment, and will develop tools dedicated to water efficiency in time to come.

Sustainable buildings provide access to affordable, reliable and clean energy by prioritizing energy efficiency and low- or zero-carbon energy sources.

BtrLyf provides instant and low-cost digital assessment for sustainable buildings. Using the Enhanced Digital Green Assessor (EDGAR) tool, building owners, facility managers and consultants are able to quantify and qualify the best energy conservation and carbon reduction measures for a sustainable building.

The construction of sustainable buildings and infrastructure can create jobs, reskill and upskill workers, enabling a just transition to a low-carbon economy.

BtrLyf improves productivity of green assessment by 10-50x, thus enhancing green project opportunities and accelerating green economic growth via decarbonization of the built environment.

Sustainable buildings and cities provide equitable and high-quality urban and regional infrastructure that promotes economic development, human welfare and cleaner operation as part of a circular economy.

BtrLyf enables the most innovative green building products and solutions to be at the forefront of decarbonization through the Product Inclusion in Assessment (PRIA) tool.

Sustainable buildings protect human health and promote a decent standard of living across the lifecycle, from quality employment and human rights for construction and material workers, to eliminating energy poverty and ensuring affordability and comfort in operational buildings.

Sustainable buildings in cities provide access to high-quality housing and public infrastructure to all citizens, promoting harmonious social, environmental and economic development.

BtrLyf creates digital twins of entire cities and allows anyone to assess any building, anywhere, anytime, instantly and at super-low costs.

Sustainable buildings are circular buildings that optimise resource use, result in zero waste to landfill, and support the regeneration of resources and natural systems.

BtrLyf has a non-technical digital interface that significantly reduces the barriers of assessing energy conservation measures, and understanding their financial and environmental impacts with quantification

Considering the importance of the longevity of buildings, sustainable buildings support clean energy used efficiently, and sustainable cities work alongside individual buildings to decarbonise public resources and infrastructure, and incorporate future-proofing mechanisms to improve resilience and adaptation to future climatic change.

Sustainable buildings provide access to nature for everyone and enable nature-based solutions that enhance resilience and support biodiversity and ecosystem services.

BtrLyf enables creation of sustainable buildings through a digital interface that is open and can integrate with several other related services and data

Sustainable buildings and cities are created through powerful partnerships that enhance knowledge sharing and ambition across the three pillars of sustainability – planet, people and economies.

BtrLyf is a unified digital platform that helps co-creation of sustainable buildings by enabling collaboration accross the industry. It promotes sustainability efforts and makes related data and know-how more widely accessible for partnership
